Snafu Podcast 6 - James Curd

James Wilson Curd began spinning loft parties and raves at the ripe old age of fifteen years. At the time, most of his friends made fun of him for this, called him names and never returned his phone calls. These same friends would wind up eating their words because by the time James was 19 he had already built a solid foundation for himself in the Chicago club scene as well as the scenes from many of major cities around Chicago. At 20, though still not legally admissible to the clubs he was spinning at, James found himself guest Dj-ing at most of Chi-Town's dominant dance clubs while holding down residencies along side Chicago greats, Gene Farris and Diz.

At about this time, James's love of music pulled him into the strange and wonderful world of music production. He wasted no time and had his first record deal with the French recording label BNO within his first year. Lucky Bitch! With him to celebrate his success was long time skateboard friend, Nick Maurer. It was 1998 and Nick had just moved back into town after working for a year in Southern Germany as (you guessed it) a greens keeper. What James forgot was that Nick was a talented guitarist, pianist and drummer who (after his year overseas with crazy techno blasting his ears) developed a taste for electronic music. They decided to join forces to see if their two unique perspectives on music creation could spawn something great. With James's studio equipment and Nick's old Ibanez, they were able to lay the foundation for a project that blossomed into what is Greens Keepers today.

You can catch James Curd at Snafu on the 24th May :)

Snafu podcast 5 - Let's Go Outside - Live

"Let's Go Outside" isn't usually something you hear in Scotland that much.. in fact, unless your a winter sports fan, usually only in our three week long summer before our 11 1/4 month winter starts again. So for a nice change it's nice to be able to say it in March. Twice. "Let's go outside to go see Let's go Outside"

Snafu Podcast Vol 3 - Part 2

Ok Folks... Here it is. Side 2 of the Old school mixtape in all it's hissy glory. .

Keeping in line with our policy of bringing you the most exciting talent the world has to offer, whether it be through your lug holes on this podcast, or through your peepers via our magazine or website (or even in our club if your lucky enough to live in the silver city).. Snafu are bringing in Todd Terje from Norway for a dip in The Deep End this coming Saturday. If you haven't heard any of his music, do yourself a favour Google his name and have listen to some of his music..One option would be to listen to it while revcovering this Sunday, before getting ready to go out on the tiles again. Was that "But there's nothing on in Aberdeen on Sunday nights! ! " I just heard you say? Well.. actually we are putting on a super fantabulous band from Australia called The Presets this very sabbath. So come hither, Snafu children and rejoice in glory that is amplified sound.
We have some super-special Podcasts coming up next from our good friends at Soma Records in Glasgow. I'm not gonna tell you who they are yet... but they are pretty special, and not available to download ANYWHERE else on the web.
See you on the dancefloor.

Snafu Podcast 2 - Martin Jay

Hey there everyone...

Firstly, Thanks for all the great feedback from the first Snafu Podcast. We've been very suprised by how many of you are listening and how far and wide across the globe you are all scattered.. GOOD EFFORT!

Well... Here in Aberdeen the temperature is starting to drop quicker than the Northern rock share price.. so what do we do when it starts to get cold? Thats right, we turn up the heat! So, who better to bring the heat than one of the mainstays of the Snafu sound, MR MARTIN JAY - resident at the weekly free-for-all that is known in the 'deen as MOM... THE VIDEO BROKE, which takes it's inspiration from the digital technology and free thinking of the late 70s and early 80s where electronic music met disco-punk-rock-reggae-dub-funk-soul-hiphop-house and pop records were actually quite good, Martin Jay (The Goodfoot / Estaminet) works his magic every Wednesday night (and some fridays) in Club Snafu to unravel some of the good sounds from the under and overground throwdown of music. There is most definitely no musical discrimination here..

jeez... you know what? I'll just let the music do the talking....
